Safeguarding at Upminster Rugby Club

At Upminster Rugby Club, we are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all members — especially children and vulnerable adults.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Whether you’re a parent, coach, player, volunteer or visitor, we all share a duty to protect and support those around us.

We follow the RFU’s Safe Recruitment Policy for all individuals who work directly with young players. This includes coaches, volunteers, and first aiders. The club’s safeguarding team oversees the recruitment of these roles to ensure all individuals are suitably qualified and appropriately vetted before taking on any responsibilities.

Anyone working directly with young players or providing first aid cover is required to complete the following steps before beginning their role:

  • Submit the official RFU Volunteer Recruitment Application Form (available from the Safeguarding Officer or RFU website)

  • Complete the RFU online Safeguarding course

  • Complete the ‘Headcase’ concussion awareness e-learning

  • Undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (once training is completed)

These requirements help ensure everyone involved with our young players is committed, knowledgeable, and trusted.

If you have any concerns, please contact our Safeguarding Officers:
